Know what's awesome about being down the hall from the two big top 40 stations of the '70s, '80s and '90s?  You happen upon some pretty cool stuff...and recently, we stumbled across a huge collection of WDBQ and K-Live 105 music surveys that counted down the biggest hits in the area every week.  Instead of just geeking out on them ourselves, we thought we'd share them with you!  So here's the top 5 songs from May 21, 1974:

5. Joni Mitchell/"Help Me"
By far, Joni's biggest hit...and she's Canadian, so if you don't like it, it's kinda like kicking a puppy.

4. Stylistics/"You Make Me Feel Brand New"
Every time I hear this song, I have to sing along -- and every time I sing along, anyone nearby wishes I wouldn't.  I.  DON'T.  CARE.

3. Maria Muldaur/"Midnight At The Oasis"
Send your camel to bed.  'Nuff said.

2. Ray Stevens/"The Streak"
As a rule, I don't like novelty songs -- and this is really no exception, although I do think Ray Stevens is a funny dude, so I'll let him have this one.

1. Paul McCartney & Wings/"Band On The Run"
I know it's hard not to like a McCartney song -- he's a damn BEATLE, after all, but this one really IS a jam.

Hope you dug today's Tri-State Throwbacks.  Make sure you check back Monday through Friday for a new countdown!
