The Friends of Galena Public Library is readying for a book sale this Friday and Saturday to raise funds for the Galena Public Library District.

The sale will occur from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 29, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, at Crossroads Community Church, 900 Galena Square Drive.

The sale will include gently used hardback and paperback books in various genres. DVDs, games, and puzzles will also be available for purchase. In addition, shoppers who bring their own bags will receive a free book for each bag used.

With the rumored demise of new and second-hand book stores, this is just the type of event to excite book lovers throughout the Tri-States. For decades, the second-hand book store was a popular and ubiquitous retail business throughout American cities and towns.

With the rise of online retailers like Amazon, the treasured book sanctuaries have hit tough times, but they are not without their fans. Additionally, local libraries across the country have found creative ways to fill the void with annual sales, such as the one planned for Galena, and using their libraries as retail space to offer second-hand books and publications for purchase.

Besides, many book lovers appreciate a thrifty find, so go to Crossroads Community Church, 900 Galena Square Drive to check out the Galena Public Library's affordable offerings. To learn more, visit galenalibrary.org
