Veterans of World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War are welcome and encouraged to apply for the trips.

The cost of a trip is $700 per person. However, area veterans may make the honor flight free of charge with generous community donations. Volunteer chaperones often accompany veterans. They are asked to contribute $500 to defer trip costs.

Veterans facing terminal illnesses get top priority for the trips. World War II, Korea, and Vietnam received consideration accordingly.

Call Perry Mason at 563-690-0815 or visit honorflightdbq.org for application information.

You may also make donations at all DuTrac Community Credit Locations. In addition, contributions may be submitted via a check to Honor Flight of Dubuque the Tri-States - c/o of DuTrac Community Credit Union, P.O. Box 3250, Dubuque IA 52004-3250.

In May of this year, the organization arranged for two honor flights carrying a total of about 200 veterans -- the first such trips out of Dubuque since 2014.

The Honor Flight Network recognizes and honors veterans who served from World War II to the Korean War and Vietnam. In addition, the organization serves severely ill and injured veterans from all service eras.

The Honor Flight Network is a network of independent hubs honoring veterans with an all-expenses paid trip to the memorials in Washington, D.C., a journey many veterans may not otherwise be physically or financially capable of taking.
