On a recent business trip in Missouri, a friend sent me a picture of the coffee at her hotel, asking if I had ever heard of the Dubuque Coffee Company. Of course, I had not, but I certainly liked the idea and was impressed that someone had the good sense and taste to elevate it to a classy-looking hot beverage brand.

The Dubuque Coffee Co. brand comes complete with the iconic fleur-de-lis symbol long identified with the Dubuque Packing Company and Iowa's oldest city bearing the namesake of French fur trader Julien Dubuque.

It turns out that Charles Dubuque of St. Louis founded the Dubuque Coffee Company. Unfortunately, nothing indicates that Charles is a descendant of Julien Dubuque., which would be fun to know, especially since Julien also had a brother named Charles.

I've contacted the Coffee Company through email asking the question, but I am still waiting to hear back.

Nonetheless, the company website states Charles Dubuque spent a few decades in the international coffee trade before launching his brand. Headquartered in St. Louis, Dubuque Coffee Company lists an impressive market reach throughout Missouri, the midwest, and across the country.

"We're thrilled to be the coffee of choice in hundreds of the best restaurants, private clubs, and favored establishments throughout the Midwest and the nation." - DubuqueCoffee.com

The Iowa opportunities for trying Dubuque Coffee are the General Store & Fudge Shop and Uncle Buck's Fishbowl & Grill in Altoona. Additionally, at Sugarfire in Cedar Rapids and Santino's in Urbandale.

If you'd like to try the product, DubuqueCoffee.com lists seven roasts available for purchase at a reasonable price of $9.29 per 12 oz bag. In addition, some fun merchandise is available, including a hat and coffee mugs bearing the company logo.

Despite being a five-hour car ride away, perhaps you or someone on your holiday gift list may be thrilled to get Dubuque-branded coffee beans and a mug. It may be the perfect present for your Dubuquer friends and family.
