What's the difference between Memorial Day and Veteran's Day? I've been asked that question almost every year for the past 35 plus years that I've been in radio. And yes there's is a difference. It's great that people want to remember and honor the members of the military each May on Memorial Day and each November on Veteran's Day.  However most people get the two Holidays confused.  There really is a difference between the two.  Here's a quick look at the correct way to mark each holiday.

  • Memorial Day: According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, this is a day to honor military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle,
  • Veterans Day: A holiday to remember everyone who served in the military, period, whether or not they served in wartime. This includes those that have served and those currently serving.

It's important that we honor the members of our military every day of the year, but especially on these two occasions.   It's their dedication and sacrifice that allow you and I to live our lives as well choose.

Help celebrate the re-dedication on the Chaplain Schmitt Island Veterans Memorial this Sunday May 30th at 3pm.  Get complete details on the ceremony HERE

If you are a family member of Veteran and need a resource for help or assistance, it's available HERE

Go ahead and enjoy you BBQ's, cookouts and picnics this weekend, but never forgot those who gave us the right and opportunity to do so.

God Bless America

Ken.
