A U.S. military band comprised of 12 professional musicians is scheduled to perform at a local high school in May.

The U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America's Shades of Blue jazz ensemble will take the stage of Western Dubuque High School in Epworth, Iowa on Tuesday, May 10th, 2022 at 7 pm.

The band is comprised of enlisted musicians whose music "inspires patriotism, connects communities with military service members, and honors our country's veterans."

The Shades of Blue jazz ensemble travels all around the country, and often in the Midwest, performing standards and other arrangements in a show suitable for all ages. Their shows feature instrumental and vocal soloists as well as arrangements composed by their own members.

The band has backed many jazz legends including Tex Benecke, Denis DiBlasio, Jamey Aebersold, and Joe Morello. They're also a popular act at jazz clinics, festivals, and venues all around the world. In addition, they pay tribute to the Air Force's storied musical heritage, and have even collaborated with late actor Wilford Brimley (most famous for this particular commercial) on a salute to Major Glenn Miller.

You can get a sample of the group's musical stylings here, where they perform the Christmas classic "Mary, Did You Know?"

The U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America's Shades of Blue jazz ensemble put on a family-friendly, all ages event. Admission is free and open to the public, however, tickets are required. Tickets and additional information can be found on the concert's EventBrite page.

Western Dubuque High School is located at 302 5th Ave SW in Epworth, IA.
