Disney’s Live-Action ‘Little Mermaid’ Casts Prince Eric
After months of rumors and speculation, Disney has found its Prince Eric for the upcoming live-action Little Mermaid film.
Jonah Hauer-King will play the role of the sailing prince, Deadline reported.
The 24-year-old previously starred in movies like A Dog's Way Home and Ashes in the Snow. He also played Harry Chase on World on Fire and Laurie Laurence in Little Women.
Hauer-King will play the love interest of the little mermaid herself, Ariel, who will be portrayed by Halle Bailey. Melissa McCarthy will play Ursula, Daveed Diggs is set to portray Sebastian and Javier Bardem will be King Triton. It has also been rumored that Awkwafina will play Scuttle and Jacob Tremblay will portray Flounder.
The remake is set to have the same iconic songs from the animated 1989 version along with new original songs from the original composer, Alan Menken, and Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda. There's no word yet if Hauer-King will be singing any music in the film.
Two months ago, Harry Styles, confirmed that he passed on the role of Prince Eric in the upcoming film. "It was discussed," he told The Face, in response to if he was, in fact, considering the role. "I want to put music out and focus on that for a while. But everyone involved in it was amazing, so I think it’s going to be great. I’ll enjoy watching it, I’m sure.”
