On Dubuque's Northend, you'll find a burgeoning restaurant and food scene sprouted up along or near the new Bee Branch watershed.

I try to make a regular visit for the Tri-State's most authentic Thai food at Pete's Thai Kitchen, located at 609 E 22ND ST. DUBUQUE, IA, just a short block from the Bee Branch.

I've dined at PTK on a few occasions. But, from the first fresh spring roll to my most recent visit on Monday evening, I was most impressed. On this latest trip, I enjoyed the remarkable Roasted Duck Curry.

The Thai name for the dish is Kang Ped Yang. It includes roasted duck simmered in a red curry sauce, basil leaves, peppers, zucchini tomatoes, and pineapple. At $18.25, it may be one of the pricier menu items, but for my money, it's worth every cent and the occasional urge to splurge. Besides, the servings are large and perfect for sharing or taking home for a late snack or lunch,

The sweet pineapple is a nice offset to the slight heat of the red curry, and the basil makes the dish flavorful as it is fresh.

The menu includes Yellow, Panang, and Pumpkin Curry too.

Pete's Thai Kitchen menu is extensive and delicious no matter what you choose to order. From stir fry to noodles, fried rice, or their hibachi, you're likely to find something that makes the taste buds happy.

All entrees include your choice of chicken, pork, or tofu with upgrade options to beef, shrimp, and mixed seafood.

Appetizers include amazing fresh rolls, dumplings, potstickers, and coconut shrimp.

You've missed out for too long if you've never had Tom Yum or Tom Kha soup. The salads offer a terrific option: shrimp, glass noodles, roasted duck with fresh herbs, and a citrus dressing.

A terrific selection of beer, wine, and cocktails is also available.

I went with the Thai Chili Margarita for my latest meal, which hit the spot.

The restaurant's trendy decor is hip yet relaxed. Chopsticks are available but not required.

Dubuque's Riverview Park Provides Spectacular Views & Affordable Camping

Life along the Mississippi River remains as Twain described it 139 years ago. While the river and the towns lining its bank may be tamer today than in Twain's time, there remains a calming allure to resting on the riverbank and watching it flow.

Dubuque's City-owned and operated 20-acre Miller Riverview Park and Campground is one of the best places to relax and enjoy the mighty Mississippi.
