"It's an exciting day for Peosta and all of Dubuque County."

- Peosta Mayor Russ Pfab.

The City of Peosta submitted the request to create basic amenities at Kelly Oaks Park as part of a larger plan to connect trails to six public spaces. The long-range vision is to develop a citywide trail system connected to the Heritage Trail.

The 26-mile-long multi-use Heritage Trail was once a segment of the former Chicago Great Western railroad line connecting Dubuque and Dyersville, Iowa. The Dubuque County Conservation Board maintains the popular trail.

The approved funds are made available as part of The American Rescue Plan. The overall project is budgeted to cost $1.1 million. It includes parking, a playground, a pavilion, restrooms and a walking path around the park, and upgrades to the current disc golf course.

"The long-range goal is for it (trail system) to be connected to trails throughout Peosta," said Mayor Russ Pfab. "We're definitely excited about being one of the fastest growing towns in Iowa," added Pfab.

The City of Peosta submitted the request to create basic amenities at Kelly Oaks Park as part of a larger plan for trail connectivity between six public spaces, starting with Kelly Oaks Park.

"A survey done a few years back asked the citizens of Peosta what their number one priority would be for amenities in the city. Parks and trails came out at the top of that survey, so we're very excited to be able to provide some other parks here for the citizens, families, and people looking to move to or visit our community," said Mayor Pfab.

Peosta is one of the fastest-growing cities in Iowa. As a result, Peosta's population has consistently expanded in recent years. With 43 new homes built last year, business expansion, and more commercial real estate development, some construction, and expansion at Northeast Community College, the community is simultaneously maintaining its progress while planning for a bright future.
