A couple weeks ago, I wrote about how the largest home in Iowa's Polk County had hit the market. Paradoxically, despite being the largest home, it wasn't the most expensive, with an asking price of $4.9 million. While not the largest in Marshall County, a unique home has just hit the market, and it's one of the few (maybe only) in the state of Iowa.

A 4,046-square-foot "circular home" has just come up for sale in Marshalltown, IA. Defined by its attractive curves and arcs in its structure, the home is billed as a "rare combination of country living and a unique contemporary style," per The Des Moines Register. The home was listed by Samantha Vance, owner/broker at 1st Rate Real Estate.

The home features five bedrooms and four bathrooms, and is located on a secluded lot, loaning itself to privacy. The property recently underwent an overhaul of its grounds, including façade upgrades that have made it a one-and-a-half story home.

From my work with the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital, and taking a tour of it myself and seeing its attractive circular structure, there are advantages to this design. The biggest is that the lack of corners prevents dust from gathering in crevasses. When sweeping or mopping, you can easily work the perimeter to ensure a smoother clean too.

The Marshalltown home was built all the way back in 1989. Per The Des Moines Register, the ground-floor is a stretched oval shape, while the upper-level is a true circle; connecting both is a spiral staircase, as well as exterior stairs for moving larger objects:

The driveway on 180th Street leads to an attached, two-car garage, while the main-level entrance dips down to double doors, flanked by stone-clad walls. Inside, the gleaming white design opens to a home office, dining area, living space and a family room with a fireplace - per The Des Moines Register

The home also features a four-seasons room along with a fireplace that faces windows that overlook a private pond in the home's yard.

Vance believes in this day-and-age, where people want possessions that are unique and define them as individuals, that this home has the character to be attractive to many buyers. Beyond its eye-catching design, the attention-to-detail and thought behind it is easy to see in the home's many photos on 1st Rate Real Estate's website.
