Way back in January, I wrote about the time a zebra was spotted at a popular bar in Dubuque. If you're not familiar with the backstory, here's a quick little distillation...

It all went down in May 2012. Jerald Reiter, 55 of Cascade, IA, stopped at the homey Dubuque staple The Dog House Lounge on a Sunday evening. Reiter had a zebra and a macaw in his vehicle, which immediately attracted the attention of bar patrons. People were taking pictures, and someone phoned the police. When the police showed up, they realized those animals were actually Reiter's legally registered pets!

I bring up this story because it was an instant moment of recall when I saw a new video that's been circulating locally on Facebook via the increasingly popular Facebook reels. The video, which is said to be shot a store in Platteville, WI, shows a large blue macaw perched on the shoulder of a female shopper.

The text over the video reads "What in the birdy wordy is going on here" [sic]. The video might be shot at the Blain's Farm and Fleet in Platteville, but it's unclear. Since it was uploaded by Wisconsin Clothing Company, the video has amassed over 5,000 likes and a couple-hundred comments.

Going off the many comments on the Facebook reel, the woman's name is Jen, and she definitely has a plethora of fans! Several people commented on the Facebook video that both her and her macaw are sweet and beloved in the community:

This lady is so sweet and her Macaws are amazing! I’ve been fortunate enough to meet them and have them perch on my arm! Coolest experience! - Megan Soppe, per a comment on the Facebook reel

It's great to see such positivity for this woman and her bird circulate on social media. Too often, social media comments are a place for judgment and ridicule.

Other commenters on the reel shared stories about their birds, their love of macaws, or the beauty of the bird seen in the video. Watch it for yourself at this link (also embedded above).
