Iowa Town Says Its Owed Thousands for Trump Rally Security

Many will recall the rally where Trump suggested he would likely seek the Presidency in 2024. "I will very, very, very probably do it again," said Trump.

Weeks post-election, news organizations report that the City of Sioux City is seeking reimbursement for an $11,000 security and incidental bill allegedly left unpaid by the U.S. Secret Service and event planners. 

The Sioux City Journal reports that dozens of City emails show officials engaged in extensive deliberations with representatives of Event Strategies Inc. It's alleged that an ongoing back-and-forth occurred for days before the company paid a $5,000 city parking lot rental fee.

While Trump was the event headliner, Iowa's top two Republicans seeking re-election, Gov. Kim Reynolds and U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, were the reason for the rally.

Long after the rally attendees departed the airport and the ballots had been long cast, there remains an unpaid bill for Sioux City police officers who staffed the event. Although it's reported that the Secret Service once agreed to pay the $10,000 charge, City Finance Director Teresa Fitch said the city had yet to be reimbursed as of Tuesday, December 6, 2022.

Government bureaucracy being what it is, perhaps there's a check working its way through the system toward approval and will soon be in the mail.
