For those of you that have come accustomed to my trips and hiking posts, I have a really special one for you not far from Dubuque in Wisconsin. I always say our driftless area is easily the most beautiful part of the Tri-States and gems like Wyalusing State Park give true evidence of just how magical it is. My wife always compiles some live clips, so check out the full experience below and then still around for the gallery of photos and some extra information on the park.

The views are always spectacular when you visit an area with altitude overlooking the Mississippi River, but in the winter, Wyalusing takes on a whole new feeling and gives you a visual treat only freezing conditions can dish out.

Things like iced over wetlands, bluff ridge trails, and frozen waterfalls, of which this park has in several. Three to be exact, each more beautiful than the last with my family's final stop of the day to Picture Rock Cave (seen below) providing a spectacle few ever witness without venturing into the frozen wilderness of our Northeastern neighbor.

All in all, my family put in around 5 miles on these trails in Wisconsin, and these three paths below are the ones I would recommend for a quick day trip to explore these main points of interest: the caves and the frozen falls.

I will say our trip did have one small event take place that I was slightly taken a back by. In my photos you will notice that Big Sand Cave's frozen fall is splashed with color. This was done by a random man that we met on the trail. He must have been having a pretty good time with his food coloring or dye, but I wasn't pleased by the sight.

Here's my rant for the day, nature is beautiful without your help. In all honesty, you sir ruined a beautiful natural phenomenon for purely selfish reasons (I can't fathom why). Now everyone has to witness that until a full thaw occurs and the dyes wash away from the frozen fall. I am glad that you ran out of color before you could ruin the other amazing natural beauty's I would visit that day.

Ok. Rant done. Check out the other amazing photos of the day and then plan your own escape to Wyalusing State Park in Wisconsin. There is so much to do and see, and I will definitely be making a return trip this spring!
