University of Dubuque to Host Tri-State’s High School Honor Band

I've honestly been spoiled when it comes to music in my lifetime. I was able to be part of all-state choir in high school (Go Panthers), an amazing, world-touring choir in college (shout out to the Wartburg Choir), and now my daughter has begun her journey in honor choir and band. I absolutely love going to the honor choir and band performances. These kids truly are the local best of the best for their age groups.

I also understand the amount of work and effort it takes to excel in music. The hours training your ears, eyes, and fingers. The time spent in lessons both at school and at home. The commitment made is a testament to the success you've garnered once you make honor band or choir.

This year, the University of Dubuque High School Honor Band is set to enchant audiences on January 19th, 2024, as over 100 accomplished band students from 25 high schools in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin converge for a day of musical celebration. Hosted by the esteemed Department of Fine and Performing Arts at UD, the event promises a symphony of talent and collaboration.

Under the guidance of Evan Glickman, DMA, director of jazz and athletic bands, and Nolan Hauta, DMA, director of concert bands, the students, ranging from grades nine through 12, will immerse themselves in a day filled with rehearsals, a comprehensive campus tour, and a delightful complimentary lunch. These activities foster musical growth and provide a glimpse into the collegiate experience for participating students.

The crescendo of the event will be the eagerly awaited public concert, which will take place at 7pm in the John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center. This free concert invites the community to witness the culmination of the students' hard work and dedication, showcasing the rich tapestry of musical prowess that has been woven throughout the day.

Nominated by their band directors, these exceptional musicians reflect a diverse array of talent, promising an evening of captivating performances. The University of Dubuque High School Honor Band stands as a testament to the commitment to excellence in musical education, offering an unforgettable experience for participants and attendees alike.
