Warmer weather is not here yet, but the City of Dubuque has been hard at work assuring that summer positions are filled well in advance of the seasons changing. The city's Leisure Services department is looking to fill a variety of positions, some of which might be perfect for you or maybe your teenaged son or daughter in need of a summer job!

Recreations Division Manager Dan Kroger of the City of Dubuque's Leisure Services department stopped by the studio to talk about some available positions, as well as the fact that new retention bonuses have been added for returning staff-members looking to come back and work for the city!

Kroger started by saying, at this time, there are over two dozen positions available, and that these positions must be filled in order to assure Dubuque can operate with no staffing difficulties during the busy summer months:

We have over 20 offerings within the City of Dubuque's Leisure Services department just for the summer, so we're recruiting and trying to hire for as many of those as possible.

We need as many [lifeguards] as we can [get], so we can open both pools. We have openings for a lot of youth programs in the summer, so our playground, AmeriCore programs, as well as the Port of Dubuque marina and several others.

Kroger noted that these positions pay anywhere from $14 to $20. Furthermore, new retention bonuses have been added this year. For example: if you work for the City of Dubuque's Leisure Services for the first time this summer (2023), you will get a $2 increase on your wage should you return to work again for the 2024 season.

If you're looking for some steady summer work, or you have a teenager who is looking to make money during the warmer months of the year, these are valuable opportunities to gain work experience, network, and improve the City of Dubuque as a whole!

In January, Leisure Services hosted a job fair. While that event was successful, they are still in need of more individuals to help out during the summer months.
