Iowa Woman Gives Birth at FedEx Facility
If this story of a Des Moines' woman's childbirth were to be a plot in a movie, most of us would call it unbelievable, incredulous, or simply "Hollywood." And yet, low and behold, it is a stranger-than-fiction story.
A story originally reported by KCCI that has since been picked up by national websites such as People, the story of Onyx King Easterlie is one that began probably unlike any other. Her mother, Amethyst Blumberg, gave birth to her at a FedEx facility in Grimes. The kicker? Amethyst didn't even know she was pregnant!

How a Mother Gave Birth in a FedEx Facility:
Weighing 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and measured at 19 inches long, Onyx was a complete surprise to her mother. Her birth happened near the end of Blumberg's shift at FedEx, around 8am on January 26th, 2026. Blumberg needed to use the bathroom, and soon found she couldn't even get off the toilet.
Per KCCI, Amethyst was able to open the door and call for help. That's when the baby began crowning. When the Johnston-Grimes Fire District was dispatched, Onyx was ready to be delivered. Medics arrived on scene at 8:29am and delivery occurred at 8:33am.
The Aftermath of Onyx's Birth:
It's true that Blumberg didn't even know she was pregnant. She told KCCI that her first pregnancy came with clear and present symptoms. This time, however, she didn't experience any traditional morning sickness or insatiable cravings. She claims she lost weight as opposed to gaining it:
The only thing I felt was when my back started hurting from back labor. And when he was descending, I felt him move - Amethyst Blumberg, per KCCI
Nick Pearson of the Johnston-Grimes Fire District said that he's seen so much in his line-of-work that he's very rarely surprised. He expressed happiness that mom and her new baby were both healthy.

Amethyst Blumberg calls Onyx her "FedEx baby," an unexpected miracle with an origins story that rivals almost any superhero. Read more about this stranger-than-fiction story on KCCI's website.
