The Dubuque Regional Airport officially welcome Avelo Airlines to the Tri-States on March 23rd, 2023, with the first flight touching down in the middle of Mayor Brad Cavanaugh's press conference.

The inbound flight held 160 passengers, and the subsequent outgoing flight was booked with 163 passengers. The touchdown/takeoff was commemorated by a ribbon-cutting held by the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce.

With that, Avelo Airlines begins its nonstop service to Orlando’s airport, Orlando International Airport (MCO) from Dubuque Regional Airport (DBQ). Avelo is presently the only airline serving DBQ. They will operate this route twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays utilizing Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. Customers can make reservations at AveloAir.com, per a press release.

Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy spoke glowingly about Avelo being welcomed by the Key City and the great folks at the Dubuque Regional Airport:

Dubuque – it’s officially time to say hello to Avelo! We’re excited to bring Avelo’s affordability, reliability and caring service to Dubuque. Getting to Orlando is now easier than ever. Dubuque and Tri-state residents can now say hello to low fares and travel-friendly hometown airport access to The Sunshine State and say goodbye to long and expensive gas-guzzling drives to other distant airports.

Avelo Airlines was initially scheduled to begin service out of Dubuque on January 11th, but that was put on pause as the Dubuque Regional Airport still needed to get security plan approval from the Transportation Security Administration. Avelo operated its planned Dubuque flights out of Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids in the temporary, ahead of March 22nd.

Molly Grover of Dubuque Regional Airport also had glowing things to say about Avelo Airlines coming to Dubuque and all its presence could do for the area, per a press release:

We are thrilled to welcome Avelo to the Dubuque Regional Airport and be able to offer a highly desired ultra-low-fare option for leisure air travel for people that live, work, play and do business in our tri-state area. This is an exciting opportunity for us to capture market share that has been previously unattainable.
