Cafe Beignets Leaving Lindale Mall This Summer
If you've never tried a beignet before, you need to. Fortunately, there is a restaurant in Cedar Rapids that specializes in authentic New Orleans beignets. Unfortunately, that restaurant has announced that it will close later this summer.
From Farmers Market to Lindale Mall
Cafe Beignet got its start at the downtown Cedar Rapids Farmers Market. You might have stood in line for one of their amazing treats. In case you're not familiar with what a beignet is, they are the official state donut of Louisiana, and are described as a "deep-fried, soft, square piece of dough, covered in powdered sugar." I mean, what's not to love?
After gaining popularity at the Cedar Rapids Farmers Markets, Cafe Beignet moved to the food court of Lindale Mall in October of 2025. Along with their signature beignets, they expanded the menu to include other treats like buttermilk drops and caramel cake, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. They also served Cajun-inspired dishes like fried catfish, red beans, and rice. I stopped in last year to try the food for myself and got some amazing chicken and fried rice to go.
Cafe Beignet to Close Lindale Mall Location
Fans of Cafe Beignet will be sad to learn that the owners have announced that they plan to close the restaurant in August. They made the announcement on social media.
The Lindale Mall restaurant will close the second week of August as the owners plan to relocate to the Atlanta area to be closer to family, according to the Gazette.
