Highway 20 and Old Highway Road Intersection Closed Monday May 7th
Reconstruction of the intersection of U.S. 20/Dodge Street and Old Highway Road on Dubuque’s west end will require detours beginning Monday night, May 7, as progress continues on the U.S. 52/Southwest Arterial project.
Detours will be posted and access to all businesses in the corridor will be maintained throughout the project. Four lanes of traffic, two eastbound and two westbound, will also be maintained on U.S. 20/Dodge Street throughout this phase of the project.
Reconstruction of the intersection will include the installation of a temporary median barrier on US20 which will require that Old Highway Road become right-turn in and right-turn out only. Traffic on Old Highway Road will not be permitted to turn left from Old Highway to travel eastbound on U.S. 20/Dodge Street at the intersection. Additionally, eastbound traffic on U.S. 20/Dodge Street will not be permitted to turn left from U.S. 20 onto Old Highway Road at the intersection. The detour will be marked and will direct traffic to Seippel Road, then Chavenelle Road, then U.S. 32/Northwest Arterial to U.S. 20/Dodge Street.
Westbound traffic on U.S. 20/Dodge Street will not be able to turn left to access businesses on the south side of U.S. 20/Dodge Street near the intersection with Old Highway Road. Westbound U.S. 20 traffic wishing to access Longhorn Saddlery, Gierke-Robinson, and Westside Court properties (Broughton Auto, Faulhaber Auto Body, Battery Center, Big River Sign, Skyline Construction, Link Hydraulic) will be directed to the existing Menards/U.S. 20 intersection, where they can turn left and onto the new Menards frontage road, by which they can access those businesses.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in the construction zone. A map of the detour is available online at www.cityofdubuque.org/detours. Work on the intersection is expected to be completed by late summer.
