Gillette Stadium Escapes With Warning After Guns N’ Roses + Lenny Kravitz Concert Runs Late
Despite being denied the opportunity to have curfew extended for their concerts at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., last week, the Guns N’ Roses/Lenny Kravitz show on July 20 still ran long by 10 minutes. However, the town council chose only to issue a warning to the venue instead of a fine.
The Sun Chronicle is reporting that the Board of Selectmen voted 4-1 in favor of a warning, with only Selectwoman Ginny Coppola wanting to fine the stadium. “You guys have just lost control of your licensing,” she told the board.
Back in June, the stadium had asked if the curfew could be extended until 11:40PM instead of the usual 11:15PM, but were denied. At the time, Coppola said, “This is on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. If this was a weekend, I wouldn’t have a problem with it, but it’s a work night. This isn’t going to be an acoustic evening. It’s going to be loud.”
But during the hearing, Town Manager Bill Keegan lobbied for a warning, saying that, after Lenny Kravitz’s opening set ran long, Guns N’ Roses cut songs from its set to try to get in under curfew. In addition, the only noise complaints the town received were earlier in the evening.
At least somebody in Foxboro is escaping punishment. Earlier this month, the U.S. Second Court of Appeals upheld the four-game suspension of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for his role in the 2015 “Deflategate” scandal, which inspired two parodies of AC/DC’s “Big Balls.”
Guns N' Roses still have eight nights left on their "Not in This Lifetime..." tour. However, their production manager recently said that he has been told "there’s no end date. I’ve seen plenty of dates going far into next year.”
