Jay Baruchel to Topline FX Dating Comedy ‘Man Seeking Woman,’ From ‘SNL’ Writer
The recent TCA press tour presentations saw FX announcing some incredibly high-profile talent for future series, from the likes of additional projects with Louis C.K. to Zach Galifianakis and more, and now another name has been added to the list. 'This is the End' and upcoming 'Robocop' remake star Jay Baruchel will return to TV to headline FX's new comedy 'Man Seeking Woman,' an adaptation of 'The Last Girlfriend on Earth.'
The latest FX pilot will draw its base from 'Saturday Night Live' writer Simon Rich’s book 'The Last Girlfriend on Earth,' and the potential series is described by the network as “a sweet and absurd look at the life-and-death stakes of dating.” Baruchel will play the leading role of Josh Greenberg, a naive romantic looking for love after his longtime girlfriend breaks up with him. Upon entering the dating scene, Josh discovers singlehood to be "a nightmarish hellscape of untold horror."
In addition to serving as executive producer and showrunner, Rich will be joined by Jonathan Krisel ('SNL,' 'Portlandia'), who'll direct the pilot, while Lorne Michaels will also be executive producing the show. For his part, Baruchel has maintained a consistent Judd Apatow presence since toplining the cult comedy 'Undeclared' on FOX, while the actor will next be seen in 'Robocop' and heard as the voice of Hiccup in 'How To Train Your Dragon 2.'
