Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin’s Favorite OREO Cookie Revealed
OREOs are not only "milk's favorite cookie," but they're the favorite cookie of many. They're one of those snacks where, if you haven't had them in a while, the next time you do, I am willing to bet you eat more than you plan. Anytime I have OREOs and milk, I always double-back to the kitchen to get a second helping. No shame whatsoever.
The folks at MRO Electric decided to look into how beloved specific OREO styles and flavors are across the United States. They analyzed over 100 OREO variations using Google Trends search data from 2024, which included sourcing the most-searched style and flavor in each state, of course including Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin!
First things first, the Tri-States' favorite style of OREO isn't particularly exciting. Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin all favor the Original OREO variety, per MRO Electric. What's more interesting is what flavors each state enjoys.
The depth of OREO flavors continues to grow each and every year. Just get a load of some of the flavor varieties you can find:
- Red Velvet
- Golden
- Double Stuf
- Chocolate Hazelnut
- Cinnamon Bun
- Dark Chocolate
- Brookie-o
- S'mores
- Cherry Cola
- Lemon
- Lemon Twist
- Peanut Butter
- Birthday Cake
- And the list goes on!
Even when considering flavors, the Original OREO won 12 states, including Iowa, who apparently isn't particularly adventurous when it comes to trying different OREO varieties. I can relate. I've tried a couple of the unique/spinoff flavors, but mostly, I stick to the original and Double Stuf OREOs. You can't turn down Double Stuf OREOs:
Leading in seven states, the Birthday Cake OREO is all about celebration. From Georgia to Wisconsin, this sprinkle-packed, frosting-flavored cookie is perfect for anyone looking to make snack time feel like a party - per MRO Electric
Furthermore, in Illinois and Wisconsin, Birthday Cake OREO is the most popular. Birthday Cake OREOs are defined by their creme and colorful sprinkles with flavor reminiscent of traditional, rainbow-colored birthday cake.
For added fun, Peanut Butter OREOs have a big fanbase in Alabama and New Hampshire while Sour Patch Kids OREOs are very popular in Indiana, Mississippi, and Oregon. You can keep those. I do not need sour chocolate in my life.
