Dubuque’s Summer Music Season is in Full Bloom at Arboretum
America's heartland has abundant culture, and I don't just mean agriculture.
While the venues may not be as iconic as larger cities, Dubuque's performance spaces, such as the Grand Opera House and Five Flags theater, are pretty extraordinary for their size.
For instance, constructed in 1910, the Five Flags theater was designed by George L. Rapp, who would become one of the nation's premier theater & movie palace architects with works including the Chicago Theater and New York City's Paramount Building in Times Square. In addition, the Grand's architect oversaw the design and building of the U.S. Treasury Department H.Q. in Washington, DC.
But I digress to make the point that there are more than a few unique and well-regarded venues in the Tri-States to enjoy high-quality theater and music productions. Including the remarkable Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens (visit website).
Started, built, and maintained by an all-volunteer crew since 1980, the 56-acre park is one of Dubuque's crown jewel public spaces featuring 60 different types of gardens, pathways, sculptures, and water features.
The Dubuque Arboretum is home to the ongoing Music in the Garden concert series. Now in its 30th season, the 13-week concert series covers several genres and is free to attend. So bring a chair or blanket, food, beverages, and friends, and you're set for a fabulous Sunday evening outdoor summer concert.
Every Sunday from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm - June 6 to August 28, the park is home to excellent entertainment in one of the midwest's finest venues. All to be enjoyed for free.
Funded partly by local businesses, the concert series has featured Buddy Holly and Credence Clearwater Revival tributes this summer and will continue with everything from rock n roll to a symphony performance. In addition, soul, funk, jazz, and even Elvis & Beatles tributes close the summer.
SUN . JULY 10 will feature various songs from the 60s + 70s + 80s.
SUN . JULY 17, it's Blues with David Weld & the Imperial Flames.
SUN . JULY 24, it's Go Your Own Way | Music of Fleetwood Mac
