As parents of a child who never liked to read, we would try lots of different things to get my son to want to read.  For years we tried the Pizza Hut reading program where he could earn free pizza.  That worked...for a little while.

All sorts of bribes of candy, sweets, and even cookies would be offered.  But eventually, my wife and I would struggle to keep him reading.  Now that he's an adult, maybe we can get him interested in reading again.....with a little help. from the Dubuque Carnegie-Stout Public Library.

Carnegie-Stout Public Library invites adults age 18+ for an end-of-summer reading celebration! Enjoy s’mores and more on Friday, August 19, from 6-8 p.m. at Miller Riverview Park and Campground, site 53. This event is free and open to the public.

Have a fun-filled evening with outdoor games, a bonfire, snacks, and refreshments. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and adult beverages if desired.

Who knows, maybe my wife Shari and I may join the fun!

Dubuque's Riverview Park Provides Spectacular Views & Affordable Camping

Life along the Mississippi River remains as Twain described it 139 years ago. While the river and the towns lining its bank may be tamer today than in Twain's time, there remains a calming allure to resting on the riverbank and watching it flow.

Dubuque's City-owned and operated 20-acre Miller Riverview Park and Campground is one of the best places to relax and enjoy the mighty Mississippi.
