Bruce Springsteen Blamed for Student Arriving Late to School
For generations, children have been comping up with outlandish excuses as to why they were late or absent from school. A student in Albany, N.Y., said that a Bruce Springsteen concert was the reason for not getting to school on time yesterday, and her father had no problem with it.
The Times Union posted a letter posted by a man named Patrick Pipino: "To Whom It May Concern. Please excuse Isabelle's tardiness to school today. In the interest of honesty, I feel it my obligation to be straight with all of you as to the reason. Last night Isabelle was lucky enough to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in Albany, and darned if he didn't play for three and a half hours."
Monday night's concert at the Times Union Center was the eighth stop on Springsteen's The River 2016 tour. In addition to a full-album performance of The River, the show featured the tour premieres of "Be True," a song that was originally the B-side of "Fade Away," and "Detroit Medley," a mash-up of four songs that Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels recorded in the mid-'60s.
"This may not seem like a good excuse," Pipino continued. "But have you ever wondered how many kids would be late -- or miss school outright -- if God were to suddenly appear? It's something like that."
Springsteen and the E Street Band are playing the XL Center in Hartford, Ct., tonight. The U.S. leg of The River 2016 tour runs through April 25, and it is believed that European dates will be announced at some point in the near future.
