tri-state throwbacks

Know what's awesome about being down the hall from the two big top 40 stations of the '70s, '80s and '90s?  You happen upon some pretty cool stuff...and recently, we stumbled across a huge collection of WDBQ and K-Live 105 music surveys that counted down the biggest hits in the area every week.  Instead of just geeking out on them ourselves, we thought we'd share them with you!  So here's the top 5 songs from May 12, 1978:

5. Andy Gibb/"Shadow Dancing"
Enjoy this one: it's the only song in the countdown where the artist doesn't include an ampersand!

4. Johnny Mathis & Deniece Williams/"Too Much, Too Little, Too Late"
Chances are we'll hear it for the boy.  Get it?  Comedy!

3. Paul McCartney & Wings/"With A Little Luck"
Luck indeed: this one would go all the way to #1 and was the #18 song of the year in '78.

2. Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway/"The Closer I Get To You"
It's truly a tragedy that we weren't able to have Donny Hathaway in this world longer.  If this is the only song you know of his, get yourself to YouTube and start searching.  The man was a damn genius.

1. Olivia Newton-John & John Travolta/"You're The One That I Want"
"Grease" was The Lovely Mrs. Davis' favorite movie.  It's one of my least favorites.  Yes, I now know all the words.  Marriage is fun!

Hope you dug today's Tri-State Throwbacks.  Make sure you check back Monday through Friday for a new countdown!
