Adam Sandler takes a break from his endless lineup of Netflix comedies with Uncut Gems, a new crime film from the Safdie brothers. They previously made Heaven Knows What and Good Time. In other words, the Sandman is a long way from Murder Mystery.

Sandler stars in the film with an eclectic and awesome cast that also includes Lakeith Stanfield, Idina Menzel, radio host Mike Francesa, and NBA star Kevin Garnett — as himself. The movie premiered at the Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals earlier this fall and got great reviews, including for Sandler himself.

Watch the trailer above; here’s the film’s official synopsis.

From acclaimed filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie comes an electrifying crime thriller about Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler), a charismatic New York City jeweler always on the lookout for the next big score. When he makes a series of high-stakes bets that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime, Howard must perform a precarious high-wire act, balancing business, family, and encroaching adversaries on all sides, in his relentless pursuit of the ultimate win.

Uncut Gems opens in theaters in December.
