Post Malone will be bringing his talents to central Iowa for an event that has brought in Ed Sheeran, Kenney Chesney, Carrie Underwood, and many other top-tier artists.

On Monday, Hy-Vee announced that award-winning artists Luke Combs and Post Malone will lead the star-studded entertainment lineup for next summer’s Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend, July 12-14, 2024.

Entering its third year in 2024, Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend brings capacity crowds to Iowa Speedway for a turbocharged blend of thrilling racing, world-class live music and three days of fun and excitement. With two of the most popular artists in music hosting concerts on both Saturday and Sunday, the 2024 Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend will continue the tradition of delivering an amazing entertainment experience for fans.

Post Malone To Close Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend

Luke Combs will perform on the Hy-Vee Stage on Saturday, July 13, before the first NTT INDYCAR SERIES race of the unique doubleheader weekend.

Luke Combs is one of the biggest names in country music today with multiple ACM and CMA Awards, including being named CMA Entertainer of the Year in both 2021 and 2022. His newest album, Gettin’ Old, further establishes Combs as one of music’s most authentic and powerful voices. He recently earned his record-breaking, 16th consecutive No. 1 single with his version of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” which earned Combs his seventh GRAMMY® Award nomination.

Post Malone will rock the stage on Sunday, July 14, following the final INDYCAR SERIES race of the weekend.

The 2024 Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend will represent the first-ever live performance in Central Iowa for Post Malone. An eight-time diamond-certified GRAMMY® Award-nominated phenomenon, Malone regularly rewrites history, blurs boundaries, and incites internet-breaking conversation with every move. His current self-titled album is yet another shift in sound and features all live instrumentation produced by Malone and his longtime collaborators Louis Bell and Andrew Watt. In June, he received the Songwriters Hall of Fame “Hal Davis Starlight Award.”

Both concerts will feature a 90-minute performance on the trackside Hy-Vee Stage, in front of the main grandstands at Iowa Speedway. The concerts are included with each Saturday/Sunday Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend ticket.

Additional entertainment acts for the 2024 Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend will be announced in the coming weeks as next summer’s festival at Iowa Speedway continues to build momentum.

Since the inaugural event in 2022, Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend has become one of the most popular annual events on the INDYCAR calendar. This year’s weekend surpassed total attendance numbers from 2022, drawing approximately 85,000 fans over the course of three days to the “Fastest Short Track on the Planet” – an all-time high for an INDYCAR event at Iowa Speedway.

Iowa's Island City

There is something unique about every town, but there is really something special about Sabula, IA. Known as "Iowa's Island City," Sabula is the only town in the state of Iowa that is entirely on an island. While not a lot of people have been to, or live in Sabula, it is a quaint little town nestled right on the Mississippi River.

Before we show you around "Iowa's Island City," let me give you the history of Sabula. Sabula was established in 1835, according History of Jackson County, Iowa, Volume 1 by James Whitcomb Ellis. Isaac Dorman and a man named Hinkley crossed the river from the Illinois side on a log and decided to settle on what is now Sabula. An Ohio couple, James and Margaret Woods would settle on Sabula about a year later in April of 1836. Their son, Dr. E. A. Woods would purchase Hinkley's interest in the claim. Charles Swan and W. H. Brown would soon purchase Dorman's interest. The three men, Woods, Swan and Brown later had the land plotted in 1837.

The idea behind plotting the land was because there was no town between Lyons (north Clinton) and Bellevue. The plot of the new town was recorded in Dubuque as this area was part of Dubuque county at the time, according History of Jackson County, Iowa, Volume 1 by James Whitcomb Ellis.

According to Island City Harbor's website, Sabula went through a few names before landing on the official town name. In 1837, Sabula was first called Carrollport. Residents of the town didn't like the name because there was a man's name who was Carroll who had a bad reputation. The town changed its name to Charleston, after early settler Charles Swan. The only issue was that there was already a town called Charleston in Iowa which caused much confusion.

In 1846 the settler’s decided to find a name. Island City Harbor's website says that because of it’s sandy soil, William Hubble suggested the town be called "Sabulum" which is Latin for sand. A party was being held around the time the town name was being discussed, when a woman, supposed to be Miss Harriet Hudson, suggested the town be called Sabula as it was easier to pronounce and sounded more elegant, according History of Jackson County, Iowa, Volume 1 by James Whitcomb Ellis.

Sabula did not actually become an island until 1939. According to Wikipedia, in the 1930's, the Army Corps of Engineers constructed the lock and dam system. In 1939, Lock and Dam No. 13 between Clinton, IA and Fulton, IL was built which caused the bottomlands west of the town permanently flooded. With the Mississippi River east of the town, this created the "Island City." A levee was built around Sabula in 1957 for protection, according to Island City Harbor's website. This also allowed for the south sand pit to be turned into a boat harbor.
