The community of Dubuque has loads of options for those parents that want to keep their kids active and engaged both after-school and into the upcoming summer months. Knowing where to look is usually the hardest part, but no worries! Dubuque makes it easy with the Recreation Division of the Leisure Services Department.

Things a heating up so it's the perfect time to plan those warm weather activities or camps in your local area. And right now there are chances to join the March Recreation Programs and After School Track. The many different programs and links that are available can be found below.

Get Movingis for kids ages 2 to 5 and takes place Monday, March 20th & 27th from 10 to 11am. Toddlers can burn off some of that "extra" energy! The class will focus on fine and gross motor skill development, coordination, and balance through imaginative play and exercise. This is a Parent/Caregiver & Child Class! Register Here! Here's and example of a past program called "Little Gym."

Music Makersis for kids 18 months to 4 years and takes place Monday April 3rd & 10th. This musical class is designed to bring out the budding musician in your child. Participants will be creating their own musical instruments that will be incorporated into performing to traditional children’s songs. Rhythm instruments, dance and movement, and each participant’s flair will tell the stories of the songs. Parent/Caregiver & Child Class!

Science Experiments for Preschoolers
Wednesday, March 22nd & 29th from 9:30 to 11am 
Have a blast exploring science! Lava lamp experiments, oil and water science exploration, a magic mile, and more. Kids will explore and experiment with all sorts of extraordinary science topics. It will be a class that you will not want to miss as they open minds to new and exciting things.

We're Going on a Bear Hunt
Friday, March 24th from 9:30 to 11am

Have fun going on a bear hunt! Kids will not only read and execute the actions of the book, but will also learn about bears, hibernation, and what happens in the spring. This class brings fun into learning and is a class your child will not want to miss!

Spring Has Sprung
Wednesday, April 5th & 12th from 9:30 to 11am 

All things spring will be explored in this class. Children will learn about insects and bugs, how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, and how life in many forms begins again. The kids will see the world in a whole new way. They will also explore basic gardening with a special surprise to take home and watch grow!

Smart Start is another program designed for children Ages 3 to 5 with early child enrichment in mind. This program takes place Tuesday and Thursday from March 21st to April 6th from 9:30 to 11:30am. If you sign-up for all five sessions at once you will be given the 5th for no charge.

Weekend classes are also underway for ages 8 to 12. Let your kids discover Ceramics for Beginners Saturday March 11th and 18th and April 1st from 10 to 11am. Kids will learn the basic skills and techniques of ceramics. Participants will end with two finished pieces to take home.  Please note: There are three sessions scheduled with the last session designated for pickup.  There will be a one-week break to allow time for firing. All materials will be provided. Register here.

To go along with all of these great enrichment activities, sports also play a vital role in a child's well-being. Physical activity is provided by the 4th and 5th grade after school track program. This intramural program is available at all of the Dubuque public elementary schools. The program meets for 90 minutes following school dismissal two days per week. Any sessions canceled will not be rescheduled. The program concludes with a city-wide track meet on Monday, May 8th, at Dubuque Senior High School's Dalzell Field. Registration for this program is due by Friday March 31st.
