Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucuses are only months away. Typically, the state's governor will stay neutral and not side with one candidate over another. That was the initial response early on from Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. However, that will change later today as Reynolds will officially stand behind one of the Republicans running for president.

Sources have confirmed to the Des Moines Register that the Iowa Governor will officially endorse Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in his run for the White House. The announcement is expected at a rally today in Des Moines. The endorsement is a big win for DeSantis. The move also reportedly angered former President Donald Trump, who lashed out in an official statement, saying,

Kim Reynolds apparently has begun her retirement tour early as she clearly does not have any ambition for higher office. Earlier this year, she promised her constituents that she would remain neutral in the race, yet she has completely gone back on that promise.

The Register reports that Governor Reynolds will speak at DeSantis' predebate rally today and at a Davenport meet and greet on Tuesday. She'll then head to Miami to help fundraise ahead of Wednesday's Republican debate. What is unclear is whether Reynold's endorsement will give DeSantis a boost in the polls. A new Des Moines Register/NBC News/Mediacom poll shows DeSantis tied with Nikki Haley, but both trail former President Trump.

Reynolds remains very popular among Iowa Republicans and many political pundits wonder if Reynolds could be in line as DeSantis' running mate.
