Another bummer for the city of Cedar Rapids!

It seems like we've been hearing about a lot of restaurant closures these past few weeks. Hospoda in the Czech Village abruptly closed its doors on October 22nd, and Rodina and The General Store both shut down just a week later. Then, earlier this week, we found out that Sugarfire Cedar Rapids would be closing up shop this Saturday, November 4th. Unfortunately, the closures don't end there.

According to a new Facebook post, La Casita Breakfast Cafe in Cedar Rapids is shutting down today, November 3rd. The post reads:

"It is with a very heavy heart that La Casita will be closing its doors tomorrow, November 3rd… just shy of our 2 year anniversary. There are no words to express the amount of love & support we have received from this community. We have enjoyed serving breakfast to our friends of Cedar Rapids but unfortunately our time has come to make the decision to close. Thank you for making La Casita a special name in our community… we will never forget you."

La Casita first opened its doors at 836 1st Ave NE in the former Riley's Café back in December of 2021. The menu features some unique breakfast and lunch items, like Churro Cakes, breakfast chimichangas, chipotle eggs benedict, chorizo biscuits & gravy, and waffle breakfast sandwiches. The tiny cafe also had some beautiful decor inside, including a ceiling full of colorful flowers!

La Casita Breakfast Cafe has a 5-star rating on Facebook, so it will surely be missed by many area brunch-lovers... me included! The restaurant will be open for its final day today (November 3rd) from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can check out the official Facebook page HERE.

Our list contains diners, hole-in-the-walls, small town staples, places that have stood the test of time, and restaurants that just have that perfect dive-y vibe. Most of our picks come from the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City areas, but we did include a few favorites that are a bit of a drive!
