The City of Dubuque is currently accepting applications and seeking volunteers for the DBQ Shovel Crew, a volunteer-based snow shoveling assistance program.

According to the City of Dubuque website, the program pairs volunteers with residents who are physically and financially unable to remove snow and ice from the sidewalk adjacent to their property and do not have other resources to clear it; this includes neighbors, friends, family, or a hired service.

To qualify for assistance with snow and ice removal this year in Dubuque, the property must be owner-occupied, and the resident must be physically unable to remove snow. In addition, they must also meet the income guidelines seen below.

The assistance program will have limited capacity and operate on a first-come, first-served basis. The number of volunteers will also determine the number of DBQ Shovel Crew pairings that can be made available for those in need through the program.

The City of Dubuque is also currently seeking volunteers to join the DBQ Shovel Crew. Volunteers care for a certain set address or addresses, throughout the entirety of the winter season. If possible, volunteers are asked to provide their own snow removal equipment as the city has a limited supply of shovels and deicer salt available for volunteers to borrow, but only if needed.

Whether you're walking to a car, bus, work, or around the neighborhood; your help in keeping sidewalks clear is a meaningful way to help neighbors in need this winter season. Visit www.cityofdubuque.org/snowassistance to apply for assistance or to sign up as a volunteer.
