These Dubuque FeLV+ Cats Will Warm Your Heart as Pets of the Week
Each week, the Dubuque Regional Humane Society is highlighting a "Pet of the Week." The Pet of the Week is available to be adopted via the Humane Society. "Pet of the Week" is brought to you by Finnin Kia, a trusted Kia dealer in Dubuque, IA. This week, the Dubuque Regional Humane Society is highlighting two amazing four-legged friends with special needs. Everyone, say hello to Papa & Maximus!
These two FeLV+ (Feline Leukemia Virus positive) cats are a bonded pair, sharing a special friendship and bringing joy to everyone they meet.
Meet Papa:
- Age: 4.5 years old
- Personality: Reserved and shy, but warms up once he gets to know you.
- Hobbies: Enjoys treats, watching out the window, and snuggling with Maximus.
- Arrival at DRHS: October 2023
Meet Maximus:
- Age: 3.5 years old
- Personality: Outgoing, social, and very cuddly.
- Hobbies: Loves treats, window-watching, and snuggling with Papa.
- Arrival at DRHS: December 2023
Papa and Maximus are inseparable, truly two peas in a pod. Their FeLV+ status means they need to be the only cats in the household or live with other FeLV+ cats, and they must be kept strictly indoors to prevent the spread of the virus. Despite their condition, they can live perfectly normal lives with the right care and environment.
FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) is a virus that affects cats, leading to various health issues like immune suppression and cancer. It is not transmissible to humans or other animals. FeLV is spread through prolonged close contact between cats, such as grooming, sharing food bowls, rough play, or litter boxes.
All FeLV+ cats at DRHS are available for 2-for-1 adoption fees, making it easier to provide a loving home to both Papa and Maximus. These sweet boys are ready to bring joy, companionship, and love into a new home.
Come meet these wonderful cats and see if they're the perfect fit for your family! For additional details on FeLV and how to care for FeLV+ cats, please refer to the information provided at this link and consult with your veterinarian.
Take a chance and make these two your fur-ever pets today.
