Milk Recall Issued for 27 States, Including Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin

A major milk brand is recalling several types of their product across 27 states, making it a considerably large recall — one that impacts our three states, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

Multiple outlets have confirmed that several types of Lactaid milk are being recalled. Sold across the country, Lactaid milk is made with fresh milk from cows that are not treated with artificial growth hormones, per its website. It prides itself off being "real milk" without the lactose, as the product employs a lactase enzyme to break down lactose from farm-fresh dairy milk into sugars that are easier to digest for those who are lactose intolerant.

According to the FDA, the reason for the recall is that specific units of Lactaid milk may contain trace amounts of almond, an undeclared allergen. As someone who is allergic to tree nuts, almonds including, the severity is close to home. I don't drink Lactaid milk, but I'm hyper-cautious when it comes to trying new products and check labels of anything I think could/might contain nuts.

Also per the FDA, no illnesses have been reported as of Monday. That coupled with the company's proactiveness is a good sign all around.

HP Hood LLC, the company behind the recall, is recalling all 96-ounce bottles of Lactaid milk, including:

• Whole milk
• Fat-free milk
• 2% milk
• 1% milk
• 2% calcium-enriched milk

The units affected by the recall include the code 51-4109 P2 labeled on the plastic containers. These units were shipped to retailers and wholesalers between September 5th, 2024 and September 18th, 2024.

Lactaid milk's recall impacts a whopping 27 states, including our Tri-States as well as:
