$15,000 Reward Offered In NE Iowa Farm Vandalism Case
In early winter, vandals struck a livestock farm in northeastern Iowa, threatening the lives of many piglets.
In late December, and early January, vandals attempted to burn two barns full of piglets in Allamakee County using Molotov cocktails. Thankfully, reports say that the damage was minimal after the bombs failed to ignite the barns. The incident did threaten the lives of many pigs.
The case has not yet been solved.
This week, the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers has announced a $10,000 reward to assist the Allamakee County sheriff’s department with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in the case.
On top of that, an additional $5,000 is being offered from local support to the cause bringing the total reward to $15,000.
In a release, Brian Waddingham, executive director of the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers says “Iowa’s livestock farmers go to great lengths to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of their livestock, and when senseless acts like this occur it becomes a concern for all of those involved in agriculture.” He adds that farmers strongly condemn animal abuse.
The Allamakee County Sheriff's Department says the reward will help assist investigators as the case moves forward. They add they are hopeful someone with information will step forward and contact their office.
Since its launch in 2004, CSIF has offered more than $25,000 to help solve livestock vandalism cases, such as the recent case in Allamakee. Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to contact the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office.
