Steve Vai has announced plans to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his Passion and Warfare LP with a deluxe reissue that includes a DVD and a bonus album of previously unreleased material.

Guitar World shared quotes from Vai's interview with Metallus.it, in which he reveals that the added album will serve as the "missing link" between Passion and Warfare and its predecessor, 1984's Flex-Able.

"If you’re familiar with Flex-Able, it’s a very strange record," said Vai. "I recorded it when I was 20 years old, and if you listen to Passion and Warfare it [sounds like] a completely different guy. So what happened in between?"

The answer to that question will come via the Passion bonus album, which Vai's calling Modern Primitive. "It’s really amazing, ‘cause I’ve [got] so much material," he continued. "Seven or eight songs are already tracked and they just need a couple of finishing touches, then I’m gonna have the old band get together that I had back then just to lay down some other tracks we used to perform in that period. So it’s new music, and frankly it’s turning out to be one of my favorite records."

No release date has been announced as of this writing, but news of the anniversary reissue was confirmed by producer Greg Wurth last fall, along with Vai's plans to perform Passion and Warfare in its entirety during an American and European tour. In the meantime, Vai's scheduled to go on the road with Zakk Wylde and Yngwie Malmsteen for a series of dates called A Night of Guitars.
