We’re starting to a see a bizarre revival trend in which shows like Will & Grace completely ignore their finales in favor of a comeback. So too is Roseanne confirmed to ignore its meta-twist ending, because what’s Roseanne without John Goodman’s Dan?

Even as the powers that be made zero attempt to hide that Goodman would reprise his role for the likely midseason revival, ABC president Channing Dungey confirmed that Dan would return to the land of the living. The finale famously ended on the twist that much of Roseanne itself had been the “real” character’s writing to cope with her life, including that Dan survived a prior season heart attack.

As Dungey put it, “I wouldn’t say that it is ignoring the events of the finale, but I can confirm that Dan is definitely still alive.” The question remains if the revival will similarly ignore the “real” David ending up with Becky over Darlene, but as Johnny Galecki is in talks to reprise his role, we’ll likely find out.

Set for midseason, the revival will include Barr, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, Michael Fishman and Lecy Goranson, with Goranson’s later-season replacement Sarah Chalke taking on a new role. Watch the teaser below, and stay tuned for more on Roseanne’s midseason return.
