The Rolling Stones' TV and radio broadcasts from the '60s will be the subject of a series of releases due later this year.

Rolling Stones on Air in the Sixties documents the band's many television and radio appearances from its first decade. The book is scheduled for release on Sept. 26 along with a new DVD that collects many of these performances, many of which have never been seen before.

The audio edition of On Air then arrives in a variety of formats – including CD, double-disc deluxe edition, heavy-weight vinyl and special limited-edition colored vinyl – on Dec. 1. A complete track listing is below. Pre-ordering is now underway.

The book, which is subtitled TV and Radio History As It Happened, is written by Richard Havers, and will follow the Stones as they become one of the biggest bands on the planet. From Harper Collins' description:

From their first television appearance on Thank Your Lucky Stars!, sporting matching houndstooth suits at the insistence of manager Andrew Loog Oldham, to the louche rockers who performed at a televised free concert in London’s Hyde Park in 1969, The Rolling Stones on Air in the Sixties reveals, year-by-year, how the group rose from obscurity to dominate rock-and-roll. Throughout, the Stones look back at their career-defining broadcasts, sharing their individual recollections about the music, the clothes, the fans, the rivals and friends, and the impact they had on the generational divide and the world around them.

The book includes a letter Brian Jones wrote to the BBC in January 1963, requesting an audition for the Rollin’ Stones Rhythm and Blues Band. From there, their story is told through interviews, photographs and documents from the era. It concludes at the end of the decade, with a look at the band's performance of "Let It Bleed" on BBC’s Ten Years of What TV special.

The companion DVD will feature "recently discovered, never-before-released footage of the Stones on TV, in front of and behind the cameras."

Meanwhile, the Stones are supposedly working on a new album, their first to feature new original material since 2005's A Bigger Bang. They released an album of blues covers, Blue & Lonesome, last December that spontaneously grew from the sessions for the upcoming LP.
