The ‘Little Evil’ Trailer Feels Like an Omen of a New Netflix Horror Comedy

In the grand tradition of The OmenThe Good SonVillage of the Damned, and Children of the Corn (which even gets a significant shoutout in the trailer) comes Little Evil, the new film from Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil director Eli Craig, who apparently is building an unofficial thematic franchise out of “evil” movies.

This one concerns a guy played by Adam Scott, who marries a lovely young lady (Evangeline Lilly) who has a son. Also, the son appears to be evil incarnate. He wears a goat puppet that talks in a deep voice, stares deeply into his television’s snowy screen. Sometimes his eyes glow bright red. As one does when one is the son of Satan. (Also, when was the last time you saw a snowy TV screen in real life? That’s pretty much just a thing that happens in self-referential horror movies now.)

Here’s the official synopsis:

Meet Gary. He just married Samantha, the woman of his dreams. There’s one problem, his stepson is the antichrist. Adam Scott and Evangeline Lilly star in the Netflix horror comedy from the director of Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.

Scott is a wonderful comic actor who deserves bigger projects. And the tandem with Lilly looks promising, as does their combined pairing with Craig, whose Tucker vs Dale was a fun inversion of some worn-out horror tropes. The evil-kid thing is pretty worn out itself; hopefully Little Evil is aware of that and plays with it accordingly. The film premieres on Netflix on September 1.
