KISS Perform Without Makeup at ‘All-Star Salute to the Oregon Military’

KISS have been one of rock’s biggest and most outspoken supporters of the military, often raising funds for various causes. They delivered a surprise, unmasked performance over the weekend in Portland, Oregon at the “All-Star Salute to the Oregon Military.”

The event featured the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Band which included Alice Cooper, Chicago‘s Danny Seraphine, The Doors‘ Robby Krieger, The Late Show With David Letterman‘s Will Lee and more. With $1.4 million raised that night, it will aid in the construction of the $20 million Oregon Military Museum. The KISS performance was a personal one for the band, as the museum is being named in honor of Brigadier General James B. Thayer, the father of guitarist Tommy Thayer.

In the video above, KISS run through “Shout it Out Loud” and the all-time classic “Rock and Roll All Nite.” All the members — Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer — were dressed for the occasion, shedding their spandex and platform boots in exchange for black suits.

While on their “Freedom to Rock” tour last summer, KISS demonstrated their patriotism by leading the crowd in the recitation of the “Pledge of Allegiance” in addition to performing the “Star-Spangled Banner.” The band also worked with Hire Our Heroes to provide opportunities for veterans to take part in “Roadie for a Day.”
