Bruce Springsteen Thinks Donald Trump Is a Moron
In a bit of political-season commentary nobody should find surprising, Bruce Springsteen called Donald Trump a moron.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Springsteen -- who celebrates his 67th birthday today -- said he thinks "the republic is under siege by a moron," referring to the Republican party candidate.
He added that "the whole thing is tragic. Without overstating it, it's a tragedy for our democracy. ... The ideas he's moving to the mainstream are all very dangerous ideas – white nationalism and the alt-right movement. The outrageous things that he's done – not immediately disavowing David Duke? These are things that are obviously beyond the pale for any previous political candidate."
Springsteen has been making the publicity rounds lately in support of his just-released new compilation album, Chapter and Verse, and his upcoming autobiography, Born to Run, which comes out next week.
He's already revealed some tidbits from his personal life during some of the promotional stops -- like the fact that he's become so depressed at times, he couldn't get out of bed. The Rolling Stone interview focuses on the upcoming election. Unlike with recent past candidates, Springsteen hasn't gotten too involved this year.
"I think you have a limited amount of impact as an entertainer, performer or musician," he said. "I feel what I’ve done was certainly worth doing. And I did it at the time because I felt the country was in crisis, which it certainly is right now. I don’t know if we’ve been approached or not to do anything at the moment. If so, I would take it into consideration and see where it goes."
That said, it's pretty obvious who he'll cast his vote for on Nov. 8. "I like Hillary," he said. "I think she would be a very, very good president."
